In the shoes of an animal caretaker

Future animal caretakers, animal science students, animal enthusiasts, lovers of new sensations or simply curious by nature, our animal caretaker half-day is made for you!
You will discover behind the scenes of the caretaker’s profession, its joys, its constraints and the great responsibility it requires.
Being a trainer for a day at La Bourbansais means discovering the 6 components of the profession of trainer, namely:

  • The entry / exit of the animals.
  • Food preparation.
  • Feeding.
  • Cleaning of enclosures and lodges.
  • The making of enrichments for animals.
  • Behavioral monitoring and study: ethology.

Le programme de Soigneur d’un jour

The health of the animals is our top priority and the day care program may change depending on the weather, the state of health or stress of certain animals, the need for special care or recent births…

However, participating in a healer for a day at the Bourbansais means having the guarantee of:

 
  • Participate safely in the return of big cats (Lions and Panthers in particular).
  • Participate in the feeding of many animals, from cooking to distribution
  • Participate in a case management of a species from “A to Z” (cleaning, preparation of food, feeding, entry or exit).
  • Create your own enrichment under the instructions and advice of an animal caretaker.
  • Interact with at least 15 different species of animals during the half-day (as examples according to possibility: Primates (from Marmosets to Gibbons via Lemurs), big cats, Meerkats, Otters, Reindeers, the Coatis, the Red Panda, the Birds…).
  • Have a one-day caregiver diploma, given at the end of the service.
 

Practical information

  • Outside school holidays: Every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday afternoon.
  • During school holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday afternoons. DEPENDING ON AVAILABILITY, you can consult the online calendar when making your reservation. Booking link at the bottom of the page >.
  • Note that you can offer the half-day Caregiver for a day to relatives who can set the date later.
  • High season: (April to September)
  • Low season: (October to March)

→ 3.5 hours from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in low season (October to March)
→ 5 hours from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in high season (April to September)
→ Arrival recommended at 1:45 p.m. in the park, to have time to enter and reach the assembly point

→ 2 people minimum. If you are the only one registered on the chosen date, another date will be offered to you.
→ A maximum of 4 people can take part in the Healer for a day at La Bourbansais.

→ Adults over 16 years old
→ + children from 8 to 15 years old MUST be accompanied by an adult.
→ Due to the physical activities during the performance and the potential danger of certain sequences, soigneur d’un jour is not suitable for children under 8 years old or for people with mobility problems.

→ 130 euros for adults (over 16 years old).
→ 199 euros family package (= 1 adult over 16 years old and a child between 8 and 15 years old)
→ 100 euros for an additional child (8 to 15 years old).
→ Reminder: children from 8 to 15 years old MUST be accompanied by at least one adult.
→ Attention: Non-refundable rate

These prices include one entry per person to the zoo for the whole day.

Everything is done to ensure that the half-day Healer for a day is carried out in complete safety and that you keep only good memories of your visit. The equipment is adapted and you will be reminded of clear and detailed instructions at the start of the service. Any breach of these instructions and in particular any endangerment of animals or participants may be subject to definitive exclusion without reimbursement.
